During my studies for my MA in Translation, I completed 10 weeks of voluntary work experience with TED Translators. This included onboarding, learning TED’s subtitling best practice from inside out, then translating and editing approximately 30 minutes of content from Italian to English. As well as providing accurate translations, I was also responsible for ensuring that captions were broken down into manageable chunks for viewers and timed appropriately, as per TED’s guidelines.
